I know it is very early into the race season, but for me to continue to develop a Road Racing Career i will need help.
In return for sponsorship big or small i will promote your esteemed business in either or both major key areas.
The first key area will be through electronic media for example through my web page displaying your logo, business name and contact address;as well as providing hyper links to your own web page. This form of advertising usually produces high traffic to your web site/business.
The second key area involves alot more in the visual aspect of advertising as follows; key positioning of your company/business logo on my bike, leathers. So far after round 1at Eastern Creek Raceway held on March 14th – 16th, I'm 2nd in the Moriwaki 250 GP 4 stroke class. It certainly has not been a smooth ride so far. Truthfully it has been very disastrous start to the season with 2 consecutive crashes in qualifying. Not once but twice we had to repair the bike in time to start the first race that took place on the Saturday. But unfortunately I withdrew from that race, as I was not completely happy with the setup of the bike. Sunday we were hoping for a better day, but once again the day did not start out well. Race 2 took place mid morning on the Sunday where I finished 23rd out of 25 due to carburation problems. After a few adjustments the bike was running a lot better. I was starting at the back of the grid for race 3. I got a flying start from 25th to 9th at the first corner. Due to the bike being stock standard for the first round one by one the 2 strokes picked me off at every possible chance leaving me being pipped on the line to finish 21st in that race.
I am looking forward to a good year, but none of this would be possible without sponsors. I’m still looking for sponsorship to help me to get to every round of the Australian Superbike Championship. But at this stage it is looking unlikely that I will be able to get to every round of the championship unless I can receive help in this area soon.
I have decided not to compete in round 2 of the championship that is being held at Mallala in South Australia. Instead I decided to look at getting some setup work done, to be more competitive for round 3 of the championship.
I have also competed in the local competition held at Morgan Park Warwick. Round 1 of the Southern Downs Championship saw me take out right first place over the 125gp bikes.

 Motorcycling Queensland
Ride! eNewsletter Issue 14 - May 2008
'With the new Moriwaki 250 racing with the 125GP bikes, things are changing fast in the class, and Daniel Youl made sure of that posting a trio of race wins on the new 250 four stroke single machine. Time will tell if the 125 two strokes can bounce back at Morgan Park Raceway."

Round 3 of the Australian Superbike Series took place at Winton, Victoria on May30th - June 1st. I qualified a little disappointing 20th of 26 starters; therefor I had a lot to do to make sure I at least finished in the top 15. Race 1 I had a fairly decent start and battled closely with a number of 125gp bikes and made a good improvement on my times to finish 16th for that race. Race 2 saw me finish 15th overall with another improvement in my times. Unfortunately Brodie Waters from Honda Technic team had a crash on lap 2 which handed me 1st for the MD250H Class. For race 3 I knew all I had to do is to stay upright and I would finish in 1st place for the weekend. I had the best start for the weekend. I manage to get past Cameron Madders and Matthew Walters on the 3rd lap to finish 13th for that race and only 1 place behind Brodie Waters. It was the best weekend of racing for me. Not only did I finish in first place I had no crashes and the bike performance was phenomenal.

On Monday the 9th of June saw us at Queensland Raceway for round 2 of the Champions Ride Days Championship. It was cold and overcast and threatening to rain. I qualified on the front row in 3rd position; that was something I had never experience. I was wrapped front row I just couldn't believe it. Race 1 I had a blinder of a start, I led for half of the first lap only to lose the front end on turn 4. I was so disappointed to have a DNF for that race. Race 2 came and again another great start. On the second last lap I managed to overtake James Mutton to finish in 3rd place. On lap 5 I did my fastest lap at QR 1:00.330 and being the 2nd fastest in that race. I was wrapped. Race 3 was a bit of a mix. A great start, lead for a lap and a half; then disaster struck, I almost high sided but managed to stay upright 10 metres in on the damp grass. I regathered myself and found my self behind in 4th place as I rode back on to the track. I was so determined to try and catch the front 3. Looking back if only I had at least 2 more laps and I would have caught them up. But it just wasn't to be. The most exciting news I got was when the lap times came in, I did 59.960 again the second fastest lap time and my fastest ever. The bike has so much potential and I can't wait to unleash it in the upcoming round of the Australian Superbike double headed at Qld Raceway on 10th - 13th July.

Round 4 and 5 of the Australia Superbike Championship at Queensland Raceway has come and gone with a mixed bag of results for me. With being a double header at Qld Raceway it saw us at the track on the Thursday for official practice. Dad and I tried a few things with set up/ timing and gearing to no avail. I had two other 250 four strokes to contend with for this round and being my home track my times were down; it was rather discouraging. First practice I was 8th fastest with a 1:22.989 lap time. Second practice I was slower with the few adjustments we did doing 1:23.716 lap time placing 10th fastest. The third practice session was very disappointing finishing 14th overall with a time faster than the first practice of 1:22.653.

Friday saw us in some very fast qualifying sessions with the fastest of the 2 strokes doing 1:16.954 lap time. Although I improved my time I was to start from 14th on the grid with a time of 1:21.689. This was not too bad when put into perspective of the fastest four stroke with a time of 1:20.502. If we hadn't wasted time on the Thursday practice day I may have had more of a chance to improve my times.

Day one of racing took place on the Saturday I was very excited and ready to challenge my fellow four stroke competitors. I finished in second place less than one and a half seconds behind first of the four strokes. I felt comfortable on the bike today and happier about the whole weekend. Race two took place in the afternoon and I finished third of the four strokes but did the second fastest time of the privateers behind the factory team rider of 1:20.875. I left for the day with my thoughts towards day two of racing to take place on the Sunday with hope of beating the factory rider.

Sunday morning I was feeling quite confident. I lined up on the grid set for a good start and that was exactly what I got. Although I was third in line of the four strokes, I the fastest time through
turn two which helped me get closer to the other privateer in second place. I finally took him coming onto the front straight on lap 4; I posted my fastest lap with a time of 1:19.702. I was only 2 seconds off the fastest pace set by a two stroke for that race. By the final lap I was gaining on the factory rider. I went as hard and fast I could with the though that if I could do another lap one second faster I could possibly take him over the line. Luck just wasn't on my side as I approached turn two just as fast as before the front end decided to let go sending me across the gravel trap tumbling through the air. As I came to rest saw my bike in pieces and intense pain shooting through my right leg. I truly thought I had a broken leg. The red flag came out and therefor with me being the cause of the red flag my results were removed from the time sheet. If only I completed the lap I am sure I would have come first of the four strokes and posting a possible low 1:19's or even a high 1:18.

I saw the rest of my weekend from the hospital bed where i was to be cleared of any neck or spinal injury. I left the hospital that afternoon with soft tissue damage and bone bruising on my right heel. Which was good for me as I got my medical clearance mid week that week so I could race in the MRRDA at Warwick that following weekend.

We all frantically repaired the bike in time for the MRRDA that weekend. With my confidence a little low I had another off coming onto the front straight. With some minor repairs thanks to the Hook family I was back onto the track for racing where I finished second overall for the weekend. The next round of the Australian Superbike Series takes place in Tasmania at Symmonds Plains 29th - 31st of August.

Round 6 saw me contesting the Australian Superbike Championship in my Grandparents home
state, Tasmania. I stayed with them which help out tremendously financially as racing is not a cheap sport by all means. As it was once said to me when I purchased my first race bike " welcome to motorbike racing the sport of the eternally poor". I didn't truly understand it then but now I do. I only have a part time job and all I earn has gone into racing. I am pretty fortunate that my parents are so supportive of my desire to race that they help out when ever I fall short. This is why sponsorship is so important.

I attended the privateers practice on the Thursday and I was able to get a good understanding of the track as I had never been there before. The hairpin is more than you see in the TV when the V8's race at Symmonds Plains. There is a drop of at least a metre and a half on the down turn with a cambered angle of about 10 degrees. It quickly got named as the thunder dome. Another part of the track on the way to the thunder dome was a chicane it too got aptly named the bus stop after a few riders came off there. Friday saw the weather turn cold and overcast with the threat of rain. Practice in the morning was dry yet the afternoons 1st qualifying session was very cold and windy.

Saturday came and the rain came in the form of drizzly enough to see the wet weather tyres to come out. This meant the 2nd qualifying session will be in the wet which was good for us four stroke riders. I qualified 5th in that session and I was so desperately praying for the first race later that day to be wet. The rain always makes for a more level playing field between the riders. Unfortunately the rain eased I finished the first race down in 13th after a really bad start.

Race 2 I had a really good start I was up into 7th just after the first corner. On lap 6 I slid out at the thunder dome and subsequently finished the race in 12th. The bike set up with a new rear shock spring I found was not good, the bike was not responding well out of the corner's as I throttled on. Dad and I made a few adjustments but it still made no difference. So it was decided that I would just need to take it easy for the last race to take any points that maybe on offer.

Race 3 on Sunday afternoon saw the clouds from the west come rolling in; Mum kept saying to Dad "maybe we should put the wets on"; but Dad and I said no as it would most likely not rain. I got a reasonable start, it could have been better though. Just as the race got into the 2nd lap the rain appeared. I took the pace back a little and one by one the boys were coming down which saw me take 8th for the final race of the meet.

Overall I took 9th place and finished 2nd in the 4 stroke class. After not competing in the second round of the Qld round I am now down in points and currently placed 3rd for 250 four stroke class overall. I will need to pull something special out of the bag to finish 2nd in the championship in the final round at Eastern Creek.

Round 7 of the Australian Superbike Championship took place on the weekend October 17th -19th. I went to the final round without any real expectations but to try and improve my lap times and to stay on after the last time I was at the track back at the beginning of the year. I managed to improve my times by 5 seconds and no crashes. I qualified 14th out of 19. I wasn't too worried about that as in the two practice sessions I ran my bike in after having the bike refreshed with a new piston. Therefore I had really one practice session at full throttle and that was in the second qualifier on the Saturday before race 1.

Race 1 took place on Saturday afternoon. I didn't get a good start in fact it was really bad. In the first few laps I tried to stay with bike number11 of Paul Campbell's. As the laps went by he slowly pulled away and therefore I lost ground and finished where I qualified in 14th place and 3rd for the 250gp mono class.

Race 2 on Sunday morning wasn't one of my best races by far. It was extremely hot; a scorching 31c degrees and a track temperature of 44.5c . I finished the race down 2 places in
16th. I found myself resigning to the fact that it just wasn't to be my weekend. My thoughts quickly turned to making the most of the final race of the weekend and the season.

Race 3 in the late afternoon with a bit of cloud cover made it a little more comfortable to race. There was also a bit of a possibility of rain. However the race was dry and I got a great start but once again was quickly overtaken by the 2 strokes. My bike compared to the fully worked Honda Technique factory bike was down on considerable power. In the closing laps of the race the Honda factory rider tried a risky move to overtake Australia's Redbull Rookie rider, Dylan Mavin. The move unfortunately didn't come off and as a result he and Dylan crashed. Dylan was able to restart and complete the race which was great, but down in the points. Fortunately that gave me 2nd for the 250 four strokes for the race and the weekend. That's racing and I guess finishing is one of the most important things to do when racing.

Overall for the round I finished in 16th and 2nd in the 250 four stroke class. Looking back on the race meet the most positive things to come out of it was that I had once again found my confidence and was able to improve my times since the last time at Eastern Creek. A lot of my confidence came from the set up of the suspension thanks to Julian.

For the season of the ASC I finished in 15th out of 30 starters at the beginning of the year. Which I think was good for my first year of the top racing here in Australia. I also finished in 3rd place of the 250 four strokes class in it's inaugural year.

I'm not sure at this point in time if I will be able to compete in the Australian Superbike Series next year if I am unable to receive sponsorship as there will be 8 single rounds in total next year and no double headers.

The final round of the Southern Downs Championship took place out at Warwick took place a week later. this round was truly going to be a confidence tester for me as the last time at this track I had a fall. I took part in the practice day on the Friday which was great I topped the lap charts against the 400cc class on my Moriwaki 250 in the 1:08.879. I just knew I was going to have a great weekend of racing.

On the Saturday I qualified fastest with yet another 1:08. However although i qualified fastest the race format was for me to start the front row of the 250 for strokes and 125gp 2 strokes behind the 400cc class.

For race one we grid-ed up with row 5 of the grid blank and I started from pole from the 6th grid on. The lights went out for the 400cc class as we thought, only to realise that the race format for the rest of the field being my clashed change and we were supposed to start on the same light.
With dad signalling for me to go the rest of the field had left the grid with myself being last to leave. Talk about a bad start!!!! The fastest of the 400cc bikes was already half way round the 2.11km circuit. I had a lot of making up to do I posted the fastest lap time of 1:07 for the race and still managed to carve my way threw the field to finish in 2nd place. What a confidence booster.

Race 2 on the Sunday, I blitzed the start and was contending for first place once again. I had to fight hard against the 400cc racer of Scott Heyes of Startline Racing to take the win posting another 1:08 for the weekend.

Luck just wasn't going to go all my way with race 3 about to start, I geared up to only to discover when starting my bike the clutch bearing had decided to give in. I was unable to race and get a third win for the weekend but I was certainly able to prove that I was the best for the weekend and back to full confidence and looking forward to my next ride. I am unsure when that will be as a lot of mantainace on the bike is of priority before then.

Thank-you for taking the time to read my year of racing for 2008. If you have liked what you have read you can always sponsor me for next year and be able to be a part of the most exciting racing. No matter how big or small the sponsorship is, it is always greatly appreciated.

Without the following people this year of racing would not have been possible.

THANKYOU to Scott Cooper of Quantum Racing Industries
Lindsay Donai Motorcycle Specialist
Shell Advance Motorcycle Oils

Home
Welcome to my web site. size="5">Honda Australia’s Moriwaki designed 250cc GP race bike - the "GP Mono" (MD250H), will be eligible to race in the GP125cc class at local club level competition, national series such as the Australian Superbike Championships (ASC) and MRRDA (Motorcycle Road Race Development Association) events. The "GP Mono" will run under the same modification rules as other bikes used in this class this year, according to rule changes approved by Motorcycling Australia (MA).
Whilst the engine is inspired by the legendary CRF250X, Moriwaki have custom built the raceready twin tube chassis, and included such high tech features as inverted telescopic front forks, Pro-Link rear suspension and hydraulic disc brakes all of which are derived directly from Honda’s RS125 grand prix bike.
Powered by a 4-stroke, liquid-cooled, electric start, single cylinder engine, the GP Mono is
designed specifically for those who are looking to develop their professional racing skills.
"We wanted to add yet another dimension to the competition to provide even more opportunity for young riders in Australia," said Honda’s Brand and Product Planning Manager, Phil Reynolds.
"With the release of the Moriwaki, it made perfect sense to offer a supported ride into the senior ranks for a young talent to show how competitive this new bike is."

<a href="http://dan41.wetpaint.com/page/Profile" 28/10/07 QR MOTORCYCLING CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES ROUND 3
Round three of the QR Motorcycling Championship Series at Queensland Raceway on Sunday 28th October has
provided plenty of noteworthy performances across the categories.
Alex Buxton took out first place in the Superbikes category on his Kawasaki ZX10R, winning two of his three
heats. Daniel Figueiredo followed closely on his Suzuki GSXR, with the top three rounded off by Paul
Fitzpatrick who was also on Kawasaki for the day. Six points separated the three riders.
A noteworthy performance in the Superbikes category for the weekend was Kevin Curtin’s run on the MV
Agusta F4. Despite two unfinished rides and the fact that he was riding on a borrowed bike, Curtin was clearly
the head of the field during his second run.
Brendan Clarke took out first place on the absolutely stock standard Honda CBR600, with Darren Love and
Ashley Barkla topping the Supersports category respectively, with only five points separating the three riders.
A fantastic result for Gerod Bloomfield, who won his three races to lead in Superstock, followed by Colin
Wood and youngster Jake Dolan. Dolan performed impressively throughout the meeting, finishing second to
Bloomfield in two of his heats, but placed third overall due to an uncompleted third race.
The Lites and New Era categories were combined for the day, and provided an awesome show-down between
Lites rider Stephanie Redman and New Era’s Scott Rinaldis. Redman held her own against the big Ducati’s of
the New Era class, finishing the final race ahead of Ryan Whelan and Aaron Roberts respectively. Rinaldis took28/10/07
out first place in New Era, followed by Graeme Greaves and Paul Featherstone.
Street Class, the largest category of the day, was led by Murray Jensen. Jensen finished ahead of Eric
Montanaro and Jade Castle to win the category with a four point margin. The Juniors class showed promise for future motorbike meetings at Queensland Raceway, with Corey Chaffer
performing best on the day to take out first place, followed closely by Jacob Morgan and Daniel Youl. All three
riders performed well on the day, with only four points separating the three boys.
The final round of the QR Motorcycling Championships will be held at Queensland Raceway on December 16.<font face="Arial" Which i have to thank Lindsay Donai for looking after my bike for most of the years racing. Without Lindsay's support i don't think i would be where i am today.

On the Saturday 21st October the weather was pretty good but the flies were unbearable.
In the practice session i took it easy and did a practice time of 1:17.695 which was almost 3 seconds faster than my nearest moriwaki competitor and less the 1 second slower than the fastest 150cc rider.

Qualifing

I qualified in 6th position. In between two 150cc riders i new i had some work to do. My qualifing time was 1:17.293 and i was still more than 2 seconds faster than my nearest competitor in my class

Race 1

I pushed myself and the bike to it's limits as i wanted to make sure i not only win this round but the championship. I did a time of 1:16.827 which was 1-2 seconds faster than the 150cc riders. I was happy with my efforts. I also won the first race for the moriwaki class. However concerns grew as Dad and Mum checked over the bike as they do after every time i go out onto the track. They found a small crack in one of the engine mounts. My thoughts were that it was all over i will have not only lose the round but also the championship. With Dad seeing how dissappointed i was he dicided to make the lonely trip home to the Gold Coast to get the other frame. When he got home he transfered everything over to the spare frame. Dad arrived back at warwick at 1.15am. I couldn't believe Dad did all that for me, I not only have to thank Dad but i owe him alot for making the trip home, rebuilding the bike and travelling all the way back just so i could go on racing.

Race 2

Sunday 22nd October the weather was great again and the flies were just as bad. We arrived at the track, i took my bike to scrutineering to have it check and to keep everthing above board. I took the bike out in the warm up session to make sure all was ok and i was comfortable. Race 2 began and once again i pushed myself and the bike to the limits only to take a corner too wide; riding over the ripple strip i came off the edge into the dirt. I high sided and had the bike all crossed up, in a split second i thought this isn't good i going for the big off. out of the corner of my eye i saw my nearest competitor go by and i was not going to let him get away. some how i manage to regain the bike under me, i quickly change down gears and some how got back onto the track. There was some work ahead of me with only 4 laps to go i pushed on to go from last in the field to finishing 6th overall and 2nd for my class.

Race 3

This race was considerably uneventfull. I finished 5th overall and 1st for my class. I did the 4th quickest lap time for the race doing a 1:17.161. My thoughts now turned tothe points tally for the day i was in the lead and just have to take another win to outright win the championship. Once again Dad and Mum had some dissappointing news; I had literally pushed the bike too hard and cracked another engine mount the same one too. Dad said it was only small and the way the points were all i had to do was go out and cruze around and get some points and i still would not only win the day but also the championship.

Race 4

So there i sat on the starting grid thinking all i have to do is finish 4th in my class. The lights went out and off the boys went a head of me; but temptation took control once again and i pushed on to take 2nd for my class. I did a conservative 1:19.008 in the last and final race for the Southern Downs Challenge Road Racing Series.

Overveiw

With the Series now over my thoughts have now turned to how i have progressed through out the year. I still get nervous at the start of each race but i now am able to cope with it. My starts have improved and i am able to cope and ride through any obstacles that come up while racing. I carefully plan through every race in my head before going onto the track and have learnt that the fastest lap times don't come from riding fast, they come with riding smoothly as possibe and maximising the race lines of each track. I have too once again thank my Dad for all he has done for me specially after this race meet and through out the year. I also have to thank Lindsay Donai for his advice and workmanship to keep me racing. Shell Advance Motorcycle oils for helping to keep my motor running in A1 condition. Also would like to thank Motorcyle sportmens Club for arranging the Championship. This is my last year on the Moriwaki and next year i'll keep you updated with my 125gp ride.

Results

1st Daniel Youl
2nd Lachlan Gilding
3rd Lincoln Gilding

Series Results

Junior 150cc
1st Jake Horne 404 points
2nd Matt Walters 277 points
3rd James Mutton 248 points
4th Michael Jones 238 points
5th Nathan Hourterman 154 points
6th Cameron Madder 146 points
7th Ryan Diamond 113 points
8th Andy Lawson 66 points

Junior 80cc
1st Daniel Youl 413 points
2nd Lincoln Gilding 375 points
3rd Lachlan Gilding 238 points
4th Phillip Redman 192 points

Junior Metrakits
1st Dylan Mavin 383 points
2nd Jacob Redding 355 points
3rd Jacob Morgan 329 points
4th Andrew Lawson 229 points
5th Nicky Diles 88 points

The Southern Downs Challenge Road Racing Series 2007 Round 3

On Saturday 23rd of June we arrived once again to Morgan Park Raceway at Warwick. It was very cold and windy. There was a very possible chance of rain.
Mum, Dad and myself got ourselves set up in a pit area wondering how the day would pan out for us. The night before we went to a Top Rider training session to try out some jets as we new it would be cold at Warwick. We got the bike set up for the day and i was happy with our choice.

Practice
I went out for a practice session and i was still very happy with our choice of jetting and gearing. Practice went smoothly as i was a bit nervous on how i would go in the cold on cold tyres and a very cold tarmac.

Qualifying
I qualified 9th, which i was happy with as i was infront of my nearest competitor in the Moriwaki class. Just as a recap in the one race there is a 150cc four stroke Honda class and a 80cc 2 stroke Metrakit class as well as my class being the 80cc 2 stoke Moriwaki. So i was happy Qualifying mid field and in front of some of the 150cc Honda's.

Race 1
Race 1 took place on the Saturday afternoon. The threat of rain became a reality.
I took my place on the grid in 9th position. In front of me were 5 very fast Metrakits all with wets race tyres, three 150cc Honda's with the same bridgestone intermediate race tyres like me. My thoughts were to stay upright as the rain poured down and to keep infront of my nearest competitor in my class.
As the lights went out i shot through to 5th place on the first corner and there i stayed. I had 2 Metrakits and 2 150cc honda's in front of me. I was desperately trying to find my way around one of the 150cc Honda's to take 4th place. On the very last lap i was about to over take the honda when my bike began to break down. I still managed to take 5th for the race but wasn't very happy as i new it meant that night, Dad and i will have to take the motor out and put in the spare motor which isn't as good. Oh well, i guess thats Racing.
Race 2 through to Race 5
Sunday was a much better day the rain had gone the sun was out but it was still very cold. Race 2 meant i had to re-acquaint myself with the second motor. My start was terrible as the clutch in this motor is quite different. I dumped the clutch and stalled. By the time i got the bike started the last of the field was already into the first corner. I had some catching up to do and i did. I managed to finish in 10th place only 1 place behind my qualifying position and still infront on the points in the Moriwaki class.Races 3 to 5 my aim was to stay in front on the points and i did beating the rest of the moriwaki class to the finish line. Although i took out first place for the weekend i was disappointed as i wanted totry and beat a few more of the 150cc class

Overview
I'm not sure where i finished overall i think it was 8th or 9th but what matters i guess is that i finished each race and took out 1st place for the Moriwaki class.

1st : Daniel Youl
2nd: Lincoln Gilding
3rd : Phillip Redman

Round 4 of The Southerns Road Race Series has been cancelled due to The Equine Influenza. The whole of The Morgan Park Complex was shut down as the week before round 4 was to take place an Equestrian event took place. The DPI told the club to cancell all events until further notice. But on a good note Round 5 will still take place on the 20th/21st October as scheduled.

The 2007 "Youngstar" Road Racing Series Round 3

Round 3 of the "Youngstars" series was very disappointing for me. I qualified with a 103.272 lap time giving me 7th position on the grid.
Race 1 on the 2nd lap I had a slide out that ended race 1 for me. I wasn't sure if I was even going to finish the race meet. I had broken a lever and smashed my fairing as well as the gear shift lever was bent too. In a frantic mode Dad, Mum and myself put my bike back into working order. While Dad was straighting my gear shift, Mum was taping up and zipping tying my fairings; while I was removing the broken lever.
Race 2, I only finished in 7th position. It was very frustrating as i knew i could do some fast times but it just wasn't coming together for me this night. But still third place for the 80cc class
Race 3, I manage to gain another spot to finish in 6th. I felt a little more confident that i could improve my position on the starting grid and regain some points i lost due to my dnf in the first race. I took the 20 points on offer for second place.
Race 4, I had some close racing with a fellow Moriwaki rider for 5th place overall. but once again I took the 20 points happily for second place in the 80cc class.
Race 5 the final, I did my second fastest time for the night 103.322 but didn't finish in a better position with a sixth place overall i did however still took second for 80cc class.
Overview
It just wasn't my night. even though I took second out of 4 races my DNF lost me a position in the top 3 finishing just out of the points in 4th place. I have cemented a 3rd overall for the 80cc class for The "Youngstars" Series. The Ipswich Kart track isn't my favorite place to ride as something always seems to go wrong there me.
It looks like Round 4 of the series on the 13/10/07 is cancelled due to the lack of officials available as most of them will be at Phillip Island for The Australian Moto GP.
I would like to Thanks Motorcycle Sportsmen for putting on the "Youngstars" Series, the Officials, Time keepers, Flaggies, Dad and Mum for their support.

Positions for Round 3

1st: Jacob Redding Metrakit (slicks)
2nd: Lincoln Gilding Moriwaki (treaded)
3rd: Phillip Redman Moriwaki(treaded)
4th: Daniel Youl Moriwaki(treaded)

Series Positions

1st: Jacob Redding
2nd: Lincoln Gilding
3rd: Daniel Youl

The Southern Downs Challenge Road Racing Series 2007 Round 2

Round 2 of The Southern Downs Challenge was held at Stanthorpe 2-3rd of June 2007. We decided to go to Stanthorpe on the Friday night. We were told it got down to chilly 4 degrees that morning. I was not looking forwarded to riding the next day if it was going to be that cold. Cold tyres are not my favorite thing and tyre warmers are not allowed in the junior classes.

Saturday morning was everthing i feared it was cold. We arrived at the track at 7.30am. There was not much sun on the track. Dad and i took a walk around the track. The track is only a short 800 metres but it looked fast with cambered cornors. At this round there was going to be no timing gear available, but mum got out her trusty stopwatch. I recorded times ranging from 41.09 in a practice session down to 38.39 in the last race on the Sunday.

I did my first practice session on the track using a set of Dunlop tyres but when I saw John the tyre man arrive i went over to see if he had any Bridgestones available for my bike and he did. I had the Bridgestones fitted in time for my first race. They felt great, there was no slipping at all. I had a good start and was in with the 150cc bikes and in front of my nearest competitor. With race one over i felt confident with new tyres and the track being cold.

The rest of the racing on the Sunday which was just as cold was great. I kept as close as i could with the 150cc but i just couldn't manage to get around a fellow ex pocket biker Mad Mike. I manage to give everyone a scare in one race when i went under a 150cc rider at the hair pin going onto the straight. Dad said it was a pretty gutsy move to make, but it looked good and provided everyone some excitement.

Overall for the weekend i finshed 8th out of 15 overall but 1st in the Moriwaki class. Although being short it is a fast track inwhich i really enjoyed riding on.

Moriwaki Round Results
1st: Daniel Youl
2nd: Lincoln Gilding
3rd: Lachlan Gilding
4th: Phillip Redman

The 2007 "Youngstar" Road Racing Series Round 2

Qualifying

In the first Practice session i only qualified in 12th position. I wasn't too disappointed as i was only running in a new motor that we found in Sydney it was a bit of a mess but thanks too Little Man Racing in Brisbane they were able to put the motor together for us in time for racing. My last motor did a gear box on the dreaded Friday 13th( we will never go to another training session on a Friday 13th again).
I pushed my bike that bit harder in qualifying only to produce a 1:03.802 giving me 9th out of 13 ( there is that dreaded number again 13). I was very disappointed this time as i thought i would do better; but i just felt something was wrong.

Race 1

In race 1 I had a good start but the bike didn't seem to have any punch at all. I was caught behind bike 22 a 150 rider i was trying everywhere to get a round him and on the fourth lap i found my way around the outside of him to take 8th overall for that race and 4th out of the 80cc class. I must add to that that wasn't too bad considering that i was racing on treaded tyres and the top 3 were using slicks.

Race 2

In race 2 the bike became very sluggish with no drive at all but i just kept going to at least gain some points. As the race went on my tyres were slipping all over the place and i just wanted to keep the bike uprightI finished 10th overall and 5th for my class.

Race 3

Race 3 became a dns for me. My bike was hard to start and as i lined up in the out grid no one was able to see for the smoke my bike was producing. A seal had gone and that was it for me. There was oil pouring out of the exhaust onto the ground. I couln't believe it a new engine had failed. I have to say though the motor was a bit of a mess to start with and these things happen to motors that are brand new let alone motors that are 10 years old. The boys at little man racing are working hard yet again to get the motor going again for me. I would like to thank them again.

Race 4

Prior to the start of this race i thought my evening was over but through the generosity of my nearest competitor, The Gilding family offered me their spare Moriwaki they had that night due to Lachlan not riding. I took up the offer. Dad and i franticly put our exhaust onto the bike as the one that was on it was lent to another competitor. I went out not thinking of being competitive as i didn't want to drop the bike in a slide out or anthing like that. But with me riding Lachlans bike and Lincoln right there i couldn't resist a challenge. It was one of the best races for me for the evening i over took Lincoln to take 5th overall for our 80cc class.

Race 5

This was the last race for the evening and my last chance to pick up some valuable points, let alone having some race fun with Lincoln. This was the race i had my best start. By the first cornor i was up towards the front of the field only to get caught on the outside of the pack and overtaken. I had a clear lead over Lincoln but i didn't want to slacken off. I pushed the bike and was traveling all over the back of bike 22 again i found my way round only for him to over take me again on the 2nd last lap. I finished comfortable in 5th place and producing my fastest time of 1:03.797 which was still way off the pace of the bikes using slicks.

Overveiw

With an enourmous amout of bad luck leading up to and on the evening i am still happy with finishing 5th in the 80cc class. As i have said the top three were using slicks which left the rest of the field with a disadavantage and the fact that slicks have only as of 26/4/07 now been homologated for the 80cc class.

Placings

1st Dylan Mavin (metrakit)( slicks)
2nd Jacob Morgan (metrakit)(slicks)
3rd Andrew Lawson ( metrakit)(Slicks)
4th Jacob Redding (metrakit)( treaded) currently 1st in the series
5th Daniel Youl ( moriwaki)(treaded) currently 3rd in the series
6th Lincoln Gilding (moriwaki)(treaded) currently 2nd in the series
7th Phillip Redman ( moriwaki)(treaded)

Wanted Sponsorship Needed

The Southern Downs Challenge Road Racing Series 2007

Round 1 Morgan Park Raceway

I was extremely happy to be able to have the chance to race at Morgan Park. I hadn't raced there before; yet i had heard how good the track was.
The night before this race meet, i had a training session at Willowbank Raceway with Toprider. We went through how to prepare for a race as well as some practice starts; when the night for me went horribly wrong. I broke the engine mount bolt clean through. My thought was, that's it. Racing was going to be out for me this weekend; I'm going to miss round one of The TJ's Performance Motor Cycle Centre Championship.
The next morning when we should have been leaving to go to Warwick, my Dad searched out a bolt shop to try and find the right dimension bolt that was load bearing required, so i could go race. After sometime that passed he returned with the correct bolt. My mood lifted. As i helped Dad to fit the bolt, Mum packed the car. Great i was going to get the chance to race at Morgan Park after all.

Qualifying

When we finally arrived at the track i couldn't believe my eyes. The track was fast and yet flowing at some points. The surface had just been re-laid it was smooth as. Dad and i walked the track and we discussed what gearing we should use. We made a decision....
As the boys and i (150cc, Metrakits and Moriwaki's) lined up i became a little uncertain of how i would go. I qualified 8th out of 12 with a track time of 49 seconds. I must say i was disappointed. I just didn't get my lines right at all.

Race 1

Race 1 for me and the boys didn't take place on the Saturday as planned, after one of the sidecars that raced blew and spilt oil all over the track. Racing was called off for the rest of the day.
We woke on Sunday to look out to discover the day was cloudy with the most possible chance of rain.
Shortly after arriving at the track my race class was able to go out for a sighting lap and a practice session. There were a couple of places that were a little dodgy with oil but avoidable.

I lined up with the 150cc, Metrakits and fellow Moriwaki riders on the grid. There was no time to think as the lights went out quickly. My start was great i moved through the pack only to be taken by several riders at the end of the straight. I couldn't think why i was taken so easily. As the race progress being bothered by the start i fell back to 11th overall i couldn't get my lines right. It took too long for each of the gears to reach the maximum revs. The gearing Dad and i chose was wrong. I was very disappointed with a time of 48seconds and third for my 80cc class. I was determined not to get another third.

Race 2

Race two i became a little more confident with the race lines. With a change in gearing i pegged off another second off my time to 47seconds a lap. I finished in 8th overall and a 2nd for my class i even finished well before two of the 150cc boys. Unfortunately for one of the Metrakit boys ran off the track on the sweeper at the end of the straight but luckily pulled the bike up before the wall with very minimal damaged; nothing that couldn't be fixed.

Race 3

For race three it rained. I couldn't believe it, i was going to race in the rain. We all lined up on the grid in which i preferred to start the race from the rear of the field for this one. The rain was washing over my visor, the lights went out and i had the best start ever; i went from last to second at the end of the straight with a clear lead over the rest of the field with only one rider in front of me on a Metrakit the had a set of wets on and i had only intermediates. By the end of the third lap the rain eased a little or maybe i just got use to it, a bit of a dryish line started to appear. That was the time for three of the 150cc boys to make up ground and were all over my back wheel, lap four they passed me leaving me with my best result of 5th overall and a win for my class. I was very pleased with my effort and that was when i realised i just needed a good start for the final race and for another possible win.

Race 4

Race four it was still a bit wet. I had another great start that i was all over the rear wheel of the leading rider of the Moriwaki's. By lap five i found away around him on the big sweeper i pulled out some ground but made a incorrect gear change. He was again on to me on the straight only to take back the lead on the third last lap. To his credit he kept the door shut onto the straight and around the big sweeper to take first place giving me yet another second.

Overview

I was lucky for the chance to ride at Morgan Park. I had a slow start in the beginning with some major problems ( engine mount bolt and gearing) once i got use to the flow of the track i began to find my feet; giving me a reasonable result of 2nd overall for the Moriwaki 80cc class. Morgan park is a great track that is easy on the tyres and I am looking forward to going back again. I would like to thank the clubs involved at this meet, The Motorcycle Sportsmen of Qld, Superbike Lites Club and Qld Early Motorcycle Sports Club

Results

1st Lachlan Gilding
2nd Daniel Youl
3rd Lincoln Gilding

Next Page

Wanted Sponsorship Needed

The 2007 "Youngstar" Road Racing Series

March 10/3/07
Round 1

Qualifying
I had previously to my disappointment did a time at Willowbank, a time of 1:06 - 1:07 on my Moriwaki 80cc. However qualifying at round one of the series i produced a 1:04 which put me into 6th position, second row on the grid right in between two 150cc four stroke Honda riders. I was wrapped.

Race 1
I was very nervous for my very first race of the year. Here i was sitting on the second row of the grid anxiously waiting for the red lights to go out. My start off the grid wasn't too bad although i did tend to dump the clutch which bogged me down a little. I went into the first corner sitting in equal sixth position. I was pretty please with my effort not to have lost a spot. In the next few laps i was battle for fifth position with a 150cc rider. I finally won that battle on the second last lap. I subsequently took out fifth for that race doing a 1:03 which was only a little over 600th of a second slower than the second place getter of the 150cc Honda riders. I placed third overall in that race for my 80cc class.

Race 2
I wasn't so nervous for my second race which showed in my start on the restart as one of the boys had a big high side which omitted them from the rest of the evenings racing. I went straight into second position off the starting grid which was fantastic.I subsequently was over taken into turn two by a 150cc rider. I sat in third position hanging on as close as i could to the lead riders with yet another 150cc crawling all over my back wheel. I took one of the slowest corners too tightly and too hot just to have my front wheel slide out from underneath me; by the time i got the bike back up and unable to select gears properly the last place getter was already a quarter of a lap in front of me. One thing i hate is being last so i did the best i could with a gear lever with a mind of its own to regain the field and over taking the last place getter. But unfortunately for that 150cc rider too had a slide out which then left me with getting last in that race finishing 10th out of 12. My best time for that race was a 1:04 which wasn't too bad. For the 80cc class i took out 4th overall.

Race 3
Once again in this race my start wasn't too good i dumped too much clutch again. I was certain not to do that again for the next two races left of the evening. However in the start my fellow class rider was unfortunately for him but fortunately for me was nabbed for jumping the start which gave me a win for my class in this race. I guess thats racing. I finished sixth overall with only two of the 150cc riders finishing behind me but had i had a couple of more laps i would have past yet another 150cc rider as i was all over his back wheel. I guess in the back of my mind i didn't want to make another mistake and have another slide out; which put me in the line of thinking of a finish is a good finish; and a good finish it was, my first win yeah!

Race 4
My start was a little better but i didn't get the start i really wanted. I kept as close as i could to the 150cc rider in front of me but i couldn't find away around him. This race was uneventful ( a few passes and re-passes) as where everyone sat into the first corner was how we all finished; which i guess was good for all the mums and dads that were there to watch. I did the fifth fastest time of 1:03 again out of 11 riders, however i did finish seventh overall which was disappointing and second place for my class

Final
This was the race i knew that if i hung on i would get second overall for the evening for my class. I had the best start of the evening,it was great no bogging down a nice ease out of the clutch. I found myself battling for fifth position again with a 150cc rider but he was on to me and didn't make any mistakes that would have let me through for fifth so i had to settle with a sixth placing overall. I produced another consistent 1:03 again for the evening.

Overview
I was consistent with my times for the night which i believed got me second overall for the night. I know i can improve my times and will endeavor to do. Even though it was my first ever race and haven't ridden for long, i know i can do even better and can mix it with the boys who have raced before and those who have ridden for longer.

Placings 80cc class
1st Jacob Redding
2nd Daniel Youl
3rd Lincoln Gilding
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Round 2 will take place at Willowbank on Saturday April 21st.
Will keep you posted!

Round 2

Wanted Sponsorship Needed

March 2007 Warwick

Photos by Osella photography http://www.osella.com.au/wayne/framespage.htm

Wanted Sponsorship Needed
