The Southern Downs Challenge Road Racing Series 2007 Round 3This is a featured page

On Saturday 23rd of June we arrived once again to Morgan Park Raceway at Warwick. It was very cold and windy. There was a very possible chance of rain.
Mum, Dad and myself got ourselves set up in a pit area wondering how the day would pan out for us. The night before we went to a Top Rider training session to try out some jets as we new it would be cold at Warwick. We got the bike set up for the day and i was happy with our choice.

Practice
I went out for a practice session and i was still very happy with our choice of jetting and gearing. Practice went smoothly as i was a bit nervous on how i would go in the cold on cold tyres and a very cold tarmac.

Qualifying
I qualified 9th, which i was happy with as i was infront of my nearest competitor in the Moriwaki class. Just as a recap in the one race there is a 150cc four stroke Honda class and a 80cc 2 stroke Metrakit class as well as my class being the 80cc 2 stoke Moriwaki. So i was happy Qualifying mid field and in front of some of the 150cc Honda's.

Race 1
Race 1 took place on the Saturday afternoon. The threat of rain became a reality.
I took my place on the grid in 9th position. In front of me were 5 very fast Metrakits all with wets race tyres, three 150cc Honda's with the same bridgestone intermediate race tyres like me. My thoughts were to stay upright as the rain poured down and to keep infront of my nearest competitor in my class.
As the lights went out i shot through to 5th place on the first corner and there i stayed. I had 2 Metrakits and 2 150cc honda's in front of me. I was desperately trying to find my way around one of the 150cc Honda's to take 4th place. On the very last lap i was about to over take the honda when my bike began to break down. I still managed to take 5th for the race but wasn't very happy as i new it meant that night, Dad and i will have to take the motor out and put in the spare motor which isn't as good. Oh well, i guess thats Racing.
Race 2 through to Race 5
Sunday was a much better day the rain had gone the sun was out but it was still very cold. Race 2 meant i had to re-acquaint myself with the second motor. My start was terrible as the clutch in this motor is quite different. I dumped the clutch and stalled. By the time i got the bike started the last of the field was already into the first corner. I had some catching up to do and i did. I managed to finish in 10th place only 1 place behind my qualifying position and still infront on the points in the Moriwaki class.Races 3 to 5 my aim was to stay in front on the points and i did beating the rest of the moriwaki class to the finish line. Although i took out first place for the weekend i was disappointed as i wanted totry and beat a few more of the 150cc class

Overview
I'm not sure where i finished overall i think it was 8th or 9th but what matters i guess is that i finished each race and took out 1st place for the Moriwaki class.

Round 4 of The Southerns Road Race Series has been cancelled due to The Equine Influenza. The whole of The Morgan Park Complex was shut down as the week before round 4 was to take place an Equestrian event took place. The DPI told the club to cancell all events until further notice. But on a good note Round 5 will still take place on the 20th/21st October as scheduled.
