Round 2 of The Southern Downs Challenge was held at Stanthorpe 2-3rd of June 2007. We decided to go to Stanthorpe on the Friday night. We were told it got down to chilly 4 degrees that morning. I was not looking forwarded to riding the next day if it was going to be that cold. Cold tyres are not my favorite thing and tyre warmers are not allowed in the junior classes.

Saturday morning was everthing i feared it was cold. We arrived at the track at 7.30am. There was not much sun on the track. Dad and i took a walk around the track. The track is only a short 800 metres but it looked fast with cambered cornors. At this round there was going to be no timing gear available, but mum got out her trusty stopwatch. I recorded times ranging from 41.09 in a practice session down to 38.39 in the last race on the Sunday.

I did my first practice session on the track using a set of Dunlop tyres but when I saw John the tyre man arrive i went over to see if he had any Bridgestones available for my bike and he did. I had the Bridgestones fitted in time for my first race. They felt great, there was no slipping at all. I had a good start and was in with the 150cc bikes and in front of my nearest competitor. With race one over i felt confident with new tyres and the track being cold.

The rest of the racing on the Sunday which was just as cold was great. I kept as close as i could with the 150cc but i just couldn't manage to get around a fellow ex pocket biker Mad Mike. I manage to give everyone a scare in one race when i went under a 150cc rider at the hair pin going onto the straight. Dad said it was a pretty gutsy move to make, but it looked good and provided everyone some excitement.

Overall for the weekend i finshed 8th out of 15 overall but 1st in the Moriwaki class. Although being short it is a fast track inwhich i really enjoyed riding on.
